Kiawah Island is one of the most beautiful places in the Lowcountry to get married — private beaches, maritime forest, marsh at golden hour, and resort-level service from the moment your guests arrive. It’s also one of the more expensive. If you’re starting to build a budget for a 2027 Kiawah wedding, this guide walks through what things actually cost, where the money goes, and the line items couples most often forget.
We’re Georgia & Micah, Charleston-based wedding photographers who shoot on Kiawah often — at The Ocean Course, The Dunlin, and private homes across the island. We’ve pulled together published pricing and market data below, plus what we see on real wedding days. Treat every number as a starting point: venues update pricing each year, so always ask for a current, all-in quote.
For a 150–200 guest wedding, The Wedding Report’s 2025 estimate for Kiawah Island is $54,502 to $66,614 — roughly $346 per guest. For comparison, the same source puts the average Charleston-area wedding at $37,097 in 2025, and The Knot’s 2026 Real Weddings Study puts the national average at $34,200.
In our experience, full-service resort weddings on Kiawah — especially at The Ocean Course or The Dunlin, with a planner, custom design, and a multi-day guest weekend — often land above that estimate. The biggest swings come from your guest count, your venue, your season, and how many events you host across the weekend.
Here’s how The Wedding Report’s 2025 Kiawah Island estimate (150–200 guests) breaks down across the biggest categories:
| Category | Kiawah estimate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Venue (site, catering, bar) | $23,242 – $28,406 | ~43% of the budget; the single biggest line item |
| Photography & video | $5,482 – $6,700 | ~10%; luxury Kiawah teams often start higher |
| Planner / coordinator | $4,181 – $5,111 | ~8%; full-service planning typically costs more |
| Entertainment | $4,063 – $4,965 | ~7.5%; band vs. DJ is the big variable |
| Flowers & décor | $3,768 – $4,606 | ~7%; oceanfront wind can affect design choices |
| Attire & accessories | $2,432 – $2,972 | ~4.5% |

Your venue is where most of your budget goes, and on Kiawah most couples choose between the resort’s venues, The Dunlin, or a private home. Resort venues generally require their own catering and bar, so the site fee is only part of the picture — the food and beverage spend is usually the larger number.
Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s WeddingWire listing shows a starting site fee of $20,000 for both ceremonies and receptions, in peak and off-peak season. That listing says the site fee includes tables, chairs, china, flatware, glassware, linens, setup, cleanup, and parking. Bar service starts at $60 per person for house beer and wine, with catering priced separately.
At The Ocean Course specifically, the space you choose shapes the cost. According to the resort, The Atlantic Room holds up to 120 guests indoors, or up to 300 with a tented lower lawn. The PGA Room seats 80 for dinner, and a full clubhouse buyout allows a plated dinner for 200 or more. An oceanfront lawn ceremony or tented reception requires buying out The Atlantic Room — worth knowing before you fall in love with a lawn-only plan.
The Dunlin doesn’t publish wedding pricing. Planners who work there describe it as quote-based, depending on guest count, food and beverage selections, which spaces you use, and season — especially if you’re considering a full buyout of the resort’s 72 rooms and suites. Expect premium pricing in line with the Auberge brand, and ask for a detailed quote that includes service charges and taxes.
A rental home can look like a way to save, but it usually shifts costs rather than removing them: you’ll bring in catering, rentals, tenting, restrooms, lighting, and often a weather backup. Guest counts, amplified sound, and beach setups should be confirmed with the homeowner and any association rules before you commit. Our Kiawah Island wedding venues guide covers the trade-offs between each option.
Kiawah is a destination wedding even for local couples — most guests stay on the island for the weekend, and room rates move a lot with the season. KAYAK’s data for The Sanctuary shows an average of about $384 per night in January versus about $1,079 per night in April, with weekend nights running higher than weeknights.
You usually aren’t paying for guest rooms yourself, but room rates affect who can attend and how long they stay. Many resort weddings also include room-block commitments or minimum-night stays, so read those terms carefully before signing.

The Knot’s 2026 study puts the national average for a wedding photographer at $3,000, and The Wedding Report’s Kiawah estimate budgets $5,482–$6,700 for photography and video combined. For luxury resort weddings, experienced photographers usually sit higher. Our Charleston wedding photographer cost guide breaks down the budget, mid-range, and luxury tiers in detail.
Our own Kiawah Island wedding photography packages start at $9,000 and include full-day coverage, two photographers, and 800+ edited, high-resolution images delivered within six weeks. Because we’re based in Charleston, there are no travel fees for Kiawah weddings. Multi-day coverage is available for welcome parties, rehearsal dinners, and farewell brunches.
One Kiawah-specific tip: build your photography coverage around sunset, not the clock. Golden hour on the dunes and marsh is when the island looks its best, and making sure your coverage runs through it matters more than almost any other timeline decision. Kiawah Island Golf Resort lists a starting site fee of $20,000 for ceremonies and receptions, with bar service from $60 per person and catering priced separately. Your total depends on which Ocean Course space you choose — a lawn ceremony or tented reception requires an Atlantic Room buyout — plus your guest count and menu. Request a current quote directly from the resort.
The Dunlin prices weddings by custom quote based on guest count, food and beverage, spaces used, and season. Expect premium Auberge pricing, and ask whether your date requires a full buyout.
Generally, yes. The Wedding Report estimates $54,502–$66,614 for a 150–200 guest Kiawah wedding, compared with an average of $37,097 for Charleston-area weddings in 2025. Resort pricing, guest lodging, and weekend-long events all push Kiawah budgets higher. If you’re still comparing, our guide to the 20 best Charleston wedding venues covers options at many price points.
Winter is typically the most affordable season. KAYAK’s data shows January room rates at The Sanctuary averaging roughly a third of April rates. Ask venues about off-peak pricing and weekday dates.
Start as soon as you have a rough date and guest count. Popular Kiawah venues book well over a year out for peak spring and fall dates, so for a 2027 wedding, venue conversations should start now.

Pricing notes: Figures come from The Wedding Report (2025 Kiawah Island and Charleston estimates), The Knot 2026 Real Weddings Study, Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s WeddingWire listing, the resort’s Ocean Course venue page, and KAYAK hotel rate data, as of September 2026. Venue pricing changes often — always confirm with the venue.
