Imagine walking down the aisle with the Atlantic Ocean glistening in the background, a gentle sea breeze weaving through the air, and your closest friends and family gathered in a setting that feels both luxurious and deeply personal. Kiawah Island offers some of the Lowcountry’s most spectacular wedding venues, and at the very top of that list are The Ocean Course and The Dunlin. Here’s why they could be the perfect choice for your wedding day.

When it comes to a Kiawah Island wedding venue that makes an unforgettable first impression, The Ocean Course is unmatched. With sweeping Atlantic views, lush greens, and a dramatic coastline, it’s a photographer’s dream. Ceremonies on the event lawn offer unobstructed vistas, while the wraparound clubhouse porch is ideal for cocktails at sunset.
The Dunlin’s beauty is more intimate but equally striking—marshland views, manicured gardens, and architecture that blends seamlessly with Kiawah’s natural surroundings.
The Dunlin, part of the Auberge Resorts Collection, brings elevated hospitality and Southern charm together seamlessly. You can host events across multiple beautiful spaces—from the rustic-yet-refined Shippon Barn to sprawling lawns shaded by live oaks. This is the kind of place where the details feel intentional, the service feels personal, and every guest leaves raving about the experience.

Your guests can turn your Kiawah Island wedding into a weekend getaway. Between spa treatments, world-class golf, kayaking, biking, and miles of pristine beaches, there’s no shortage of things to do before and after your celebration.
As Charleston-based wedding photographers, we know all the hidden spots that make Kiawah Island portraits magical. We love how much variety these venues offer in a single location—dunes, live oaks, boardwalks, elegant architecture, and wide-open skies. Your gallery will have depth, diversity, and that unmistakable Lowcountry glow.

Whether you’re hosting an intimate elopement or a grand 200-guest celebration, both venues offer indoor and outdoor settings to match your vision. You can host your ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all in one location—or spread events across multiple spaces for variety.
The Ocean Course offers grandeur and a world-class edge; The Dunlin delivers intimacy and boutique luxury. Both ensure your wedding feels authentic to your love story, elevated by the natural beauty and refined service Kiawah Island is known for.

Hiring the right Kiawah Island wedding photographer starts with finding someone who knows the island intimately. Kiawah’s light changes dramatically throughout the day—morning fog rolls off the marsh, midday sun blazes across the Ocean Course fairways, and golden hour transforms the beach into something otherworldly. A photographer who has shot here before knows exactly where to be and when.
When you book with Georgia & Micah, you can expect a full pre-wedding consultation where we walk through your timeline, venue layout, and lighting plan. We scout locations in advance, coordinate with your planner, and arrive on-site early enough to capture every arriving detail—from the bridal suite prep to the ceremony setup. Our process is relaxed and fun, and couples consistently tell us they forgot we were even there.
The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island is one of the most photographed wedding venues in South Carolina—and for good reason. Designed by Pete Dye and sitting directly on the Atlantic Ocean, it offers something no ballroom or plantation house can: an uninterrupted horizon where sky meets sea on your wedding day.
The ceremony lawn faces the ocean directly, so every frame during your vows has that sweeping Atlantic backdrop. The wraparound porch of the Clubhouse is perfect for cocktail hour portraits as the sun drops toward the horizon. Inside, the Clubhouse offers floor-to-ceiling windows, warm wood tones, and dramatic chandeliers that create a natural transition from outdoor to indoor photography as the evening unfolds.
Our favorite hidden gem at The Ocean Course? The stepping stones path through the sea oats just off the 18th fairway. It’s a 5-minute walk from the Clubhouse and produces some of the most editorial portraits we’ve ever made in the Lowcountry.
The Dunlin, part of the Auberge Resorts Collection, opened in 2023 and quickly became one of the most sought-after wedding venues in the Lowcountry. While The Ocean Course is all about dramatic scale, The Dunlin is about intimacy, texture, and an almost editorial elegance that photographs beautifully in any light.
The Shippon Barn is The Dunlin’s signature event space—a converted farmhouse-inspired barn with exposed wood beams, warm Edison lighting, and floor-to-ceiling barn doors that open onto the Kiawah River marsh. It creates an effortlessly romantic atmosphere that doesn’t need much styling to look extraordinary in photographs.
The property also features sprawling live oak lawns, a resort pool deck, and scenic marsh boardwalks that extend over the Kiawah River—ideal for golden hour portraits that feel both timeless and completely unique to this venue. If you want wedding photos that look like a fashion editorial set in the American South, The Dunlin delivers.
Getting your photography timeline right at Kiawah Island is everything. The island sits on the South Carolina coast, which means sunrise, sunset, and the quality of light between them are non-negotiable planning factors. Here’s how we typically structure a Kiawah wedding photography day:
Getting Ready Coverage (3–4 hours before ceremony): We typically start with the bride’s getting-ready details—dress, rings, florals, shoes—in the best natural light available. At The Sanctuary or The Dunlin, the suites often have large windows that create beautiful, soft-light portraits with minimal setup.
First Look & Portraits (1–1.5 hours before ceremony): We strongly recommend a first look at Kiawah—especially if your ceremony is at sunset. The first look gives you an unhurried private moment and allows us to complete most of your wedding party portraits before the ceremony, leaving your cocktail hour free for your guests.
Golden Hour Escape (15–20 minutes during cocktail hour): Even if you’ve completed portraits, we always carve out a 15-minute golden hour escape just after your ceremony. The light at Kiawah during that final half-hour before sunset is unlike anything else—warm, hazy, and perfect for the most romantic portraits of the day.
Reception Coverage: We cover reception from guest arrival through the final send-off or sparkler exit. Kiawah venues tend to feature string lights, lanterns, and candlelight that creates beautiful atmosphere for dancing and candid coverage.
Kiawah Island weddings are luxury events, and your photography investment should reflect the significance of the day. At Georgia & Micah, our Kiawah Island wedding photography packages start at $4,500 and include full-day coverage, two photographers, and a gallery of 600+ fully edited, high-resolution images delivered within 8 weeks.
We also offer add-ons including engagement sessions at Kiawah Island, fine art album design, and rehearsal dinner coverage. For destination weddings that include multi-day events like welcome parties, farewell brunches, and golf outings, we offer multi-day packages tailored to your full weekend celebration.
We always recommend booking an engagement session at Kiawah Island before your wedding day. It serves double duty: you get stunning portrait images to use for your save-the-dates and wedding website, and you get to experience working with us before the most important day of your life.
Our favorite Kiawah engagement session locations include the beach at low tide during golden hour, the boardwalks near Night Heron Park, the marsh edges along the River Course, and the grounds of The Dunlin at dusk. Each location has a completely different character, and we love tailoring the session to your personalities as a couple.
Yes. Kiawah Island is a gated private community, and photographers working on-island for commercial purposes typically need to be credentialed or approved vendors. The Ocean Course and The Dunlin each maintain preferred vendor lists. Georgia & Micah are fully insured, carry all required documentation, and have an established relationship with Kiawah Island venues. This is something you should confirm with any photographer you consider hiring.
We recommend booking your photographer 12–18 months in advance for a Kiawah Island wedding. Spring (April–June) and fall (September–November) are the most popular seasons, and top photographers book quickly. If you’re planning a last-minute Kiawah wedding, reach out anyway—we sometimes have openings.
From a photography standpoint, October and November are peak season at Kiawah. The humidity drops, temperatures cool to the mid-60s to 70s, and the light turns golden and hazy in the late afternoon. Spring (April–May) is also excellent, with blooming vegetation and beautiful warm light. Summer weddings are absolutely gorgeous but require careful timing around midday heat and afternoon thunderstorms.
Absolutely. We’re based in Charleston, SC, just 25 miles from Kiawah Island—so there are no travel fees for Kiawah Island weddings. We treat every Kiawah wedding like it’s in our backyard, because it essentially is.
Yes. We photograph weddings at all Kiawah Island venues including The Sanctuary, The Ocean Course Clubhouse, The Dunlin, Osprey Point, The River Course, and private Kiawah Island Club properties. Each venue has a distinct aesthetic and we know how to work the light at each one.
