There are very few venues in the world that stop you in your tracks the way Lowndes Grove does. Sitting on the banks of the Ashley River in Charleston, South Carolina, this historic waterfront plantation is more than a wedding venue — it’s a love story in itself. When Olivia and Lucas chose Lowndes Grove for their May wedding, I knew we were in for something extraordinary. And they did not disappoint.
As a Charleston wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of shooting at some of the most breathtaking venues in the South. But Lowndes Grove holds a truly special place for me. The moss-draped oaks, the sweeping views of the Ashley River, the elegant historic house with its chandelier-lit rooms — every corner is a portrait waiting to happen. Olivia and Lucas filled each of those corners with genuine joy, quiet tenderness, and the kind of love that’s just completely effortless to photograph.

Olivia was a vision in a delicate lace-embroidered gown with a sweeping cathedral veil, and Lucas complemented her perfectly in a white tuxedo jacket with a black bow tie — classic, timeless, and completely them. The getting-ready portraits inside the historic manor house were some of my favorites from the day, with the natural light pouring through the tall windows and the ornate blue-green draped curtains framing every shot beautifully.
The reception was held under a clear-span tent overlooking the river, where golden hour light streamed through the glass ceiling and bathed every guest in warm, glowing light. Long tables were lined with florals, candlelight flickering as the sun dipped below the treeline. It was the kind of scene that doesn’t need any direction — it’s already perfect.
Every beautiful detail of Olivia and Lucas’s day was brought together by the incredibly talented team at Peninsula Events (@pphg_peninsulaevents). Based on Upper King Street in Charleston, Peninsula Events is the exclusive event planning and design team for some of the most sought-after venues in the city — and their work at Lowndes Grove is nothing short of breathtaking. From the tented reception setup to the ceremony styling, every detail was intentional, elegant, and perfectly executed.
