A Coastal Dream: Our Wedding at The Ocean Course, Kiawah Island
As your Kiawah Island wedding photographer, there’s something about arriving at The Ocean Course that never gets old. There’s something about the South Carolina coast that feels timeless. And when we first stepped onto the grounds of The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, we knew it was going to be a magical day.
With the Atlantic stretching endlessly beside us and sea grass swaying in the warm breeze, it wasn’t just a venue. It was a story already being written.
We love working with the MODEventsCharleston! Working with a planning and design team like MOD Events that truly understands the vision makes all the difference—and this team was a dream. From the moment we connected, it felt like we were all on the same wavelength. Every detail was thoughtful, every moment flowed seamlessly, and together, we created a day that not only looked beautiful but felt effortless. It’s always a gift when collaboration turns into true creative synergy.
Ceremony with a View
Guests were seated overlooking the 18th hole—a location as iconic as it is breathtaking. Every detail reflected the effortless elegance of Lowcountry charm. The salty breeze carried our vows into the wind, and in that moment, it felt like time slowed.
What makes The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island so special isn’t just the scenery (though it’s unreal). It’s the feeling. It’s the way the wind rolls in like a whisper, the calm energy of the dunes, the light that turns everything gold just before sunset.
This place holds a kind of magic—a quiet luxury, grounded in nature but elevated in every way.
If you’re considering a Kiawah Island wedding, do it. The Ocean Course offers a blend of coastal sophistication and Southern warmth you won’t find anywhere else. It’s a destination that feels both exclusive and deeply personal. And if you’re searching for a Kiawah Island wedding photographer who will capture every golden-hour moment, every candid laugh, and every quiet in-between — we would be so honored to be your people.
Every venue has its personality, and The Ocean Course has one of the most distinct we’ve ever worked in. The light here is extraordinary — wide open Atlantic sky, no tall buildings to block the sun, and that golden coastal haze that rolls in around 5pm. As Kiawah Island wedding photographers, we plan our timelines specifically around that magic hour on the dunes.
The course itself is dramatic in a way that feels effortless. Wide fairways, rolling sea grass, and a horizon that stretches forever give every portrait session a cinematic quality without trying. We don’t need grand architecture when nature provides a backdrop like this.
And the privacy. Kiawah Island keeps things intimate. The gated community means your wedding day stays your wedding day — no tourist foot traffic, no outside distractions. Just your family, your people, and the most stunning stretch of South Carolina coastline you’ve ever seen.
Most couples hosting their weddings at The Ocean Course stay on the island for the entire weekend. We love when that happens — it means we get sunrise sessions on the beach, candid poolside moments, and full access to all the natural beauty Kiawah has to offer beyond just the ceremony and reception.
The ceremony at the 18th hole overlook is genuinely one of the most stunning spots we’ve ever photographed. Guests seated on the fairway, the Atlantic in the background, the couple framed against open sky — it photographs itself, honestly. Our job is just to be ready and present.
After the ceremony, we typically use the hour between cocktail hour and reception for couples portraits. The dunes along the beach access path catch the most incredible soft light as the sun drops. These are almost always the favorite images our couples take home.
We’re Georgia and Micah — a husband and wife Kiawah Island wedding photography team based in Charleston, South Carolina. We specialize in luxury destination weddings across the Lowcountry and beyond, and The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island holds a very special place in our hearts. Every time we get to photograph a wedding here, it feels like a gift.
Our approach is documentary-first with an editorial eye. We chase light, we anticipate moments, and we stay out of your way so your day can unfold naturally — but we’re always right there when it matters. If you’re looking for a Kiawah Island photographer who prioritizes genuine emotion over posed perfection, we’d love to connect.
